The Gardens at Elm Bank
Bicentenary Master Plan
KZLA is currently working on the Bicentenary Master Plan for the Massachusetts Horticultural Society’s (Mass Hort) headquarters at The Gardens at Elm Bank located in Dover, MA. KZLA is leading a team of 6 firms completing the Master Plan that will enhance the 35.5 acre site, making it a popular destination that displays the highest level of horticulture excellence and beauty in the area.
In the early 1900’s the site was home to the Baltzell family, where they constructed a 40-room Manor House that was design by the leading Gilded Age architects, Carrère and Hastings. Several gardens and portions of the grounds were designed by the Olmsted Brothers Firm. This historic site features numerous buildings that the design must meld with, in addition to a number existing gardens.
The Master Plan will address much needed circulation amendments preparing a vision to restore a now dilapidated Manor House and add year round interest to engage the public and potential visitors. While overseeing all aspects the Master Plan for the project site, KZLA is responsible for articulating a compelling vision for a multifaceted investment program and a business strategy to help Mass Hort deliver it’s mission well into the 21st Century.
